2/25/08 - Hello everyone.
To the left you can watch a little short video I made in my free time, aptly titled
"Cartoon" because it is indeed a cartoon.
It probably took about an hour to make each shot. You can figure out the math
yourself, but it took a nice bit of time to make.
Anyway, February is almost finished. What have we learned this month? Have we
really sat down and thought about ourselves and who we are? I don't want people to
feel that I haven't done my part, so here is my contribution to Black History Month.

Black History Month was established in 1976 by African-Americans for the Study of Afro-American Life and History, according to Wikipedia anyway. In fact I'm just
going to go ahead and tell you guys right now that all of my info is from Wikipedia.
Did you know that before Black History Month there was a Black History Week? This week was seven days long.
Okay, that's enough with the history. Let's start learning about famous people!
First, let's get some of the boring famous people out of the way.
W.E.B. Du Bois
Frederick Douglass
Barack Obama
Chinua Achebe
Woo, okay. Now the good stuff.
Name: Otis Boykin
Born: Dallas, Texas. 1920 - 1982
Middle Name: Frank
Why Famous?: Invented the pacemaker.
Other Info: Ironically, Otis died of heat failure.
Also: There are only two pictures of Otis Boykin on the internet.
Take your pick: Cartoon Otis, or Lego Otis.
Name: George Washington Carver
Born: Diamond, Missouri. 1864 - 1943.
Middle Name: Washington
Why Famous?: Famous botanist, and supposedly invented peanut butter.
Other Info: While extensively researching this man on Wikipedia, I was
shocked to discover that he in fact did not invent creamy OR chunky peanut
butter. He also did not invent salted peanuts, peanut bar candy, chocolate
coated peanuts, peanut chocolate fudge, peanut wafers, or peanut brittle.
However, he did like peanuts a lot and wrote several books on the subject.
Also: Carver also did lots of research on sweet potatoes and claimed there
were over 118 uses for the vegetable.
Name: Garrett Morgan
Born: Paris, Kentucky. 1877 - 1963
Middle Name: Augstus
Why Famous?: Helped create modern gas masks, created hair straightening
preparation (don't ask me how those two things are related)
Also: Really I'm not sure what else to say about this one. He was a good man.
Wow, that sure was informative! Thanks a lot for reading. I'll be back the same time next year for an even better Black History Month update.
Check back later this week for a sweet update on Dubai.
